Shanghai Tourism Guide

Terms of Use

Last updated: 29 August 2026

These terms govern your use of Shanghai Tourism Guide at www.shanghaitourism.org. Reading the site means you accept them. They are written to be read, not to be impenetrable.

1. What this site is

Shanghai Tourism Guide is an independent editorial publication about travel to Shanghai. It is a source of information and opinion. It is not a travel agency, tour operator, booking service or agent, and we have no contractual relationship with any hotel, restaurant, attraction or transport provider mentioned in the guides.

Nothing here is a booking, a reservation, or a promise that anything described will be available, open, priced as stated, or suitable for you.

2. Accuracy, and the limits of it

We research carefully and check against primary sources — government portals, immigration authorities, transport operators, the venues themselves. Even so, Shanghai changes quickly and information here will sometimes be wrong or out of date. Prices rise. Museums close for refurbishment. Metro exits are renumbered. Entry policies are revised, sometimes at short notice.

We give no warranty that anything on this site is accurate, complete or current, and we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access to it. Content is provided “as is”.

Three things you must verify yourself before relying on them:

  • Visa and entry requirements. Anything we write about visa-free entry, the 240-hour transit policy, eligible nationalities or eligible ports of entry is general background only. It is not immigration advice and it changes. The National Immigration Administration and your nearest Chinese embassy or consulate are the only authorities whose answer counts. Being refused boarding or entry on the basis of something you read here is a risk we cannot carry for you.
  • Health, insurance and safety. Our guides describe conditions as we understand them. They are not medical advice, and they are not a substitute for your government’s current travel advisory or for proper travel insurance.
  • Prices, hours and booking rules. Confirm with the venue or operator before you travel across a city for something.

You travel at your own risk and are responsible for your own decisions, your own documents and your own safety.

3. Editorial independence and recommendations

Where a guide recommends a specific place, that recommendation is our editorial opinion, unpaid and uninvited. We take no commission on bookings, run no affiliate links, and accept no payment, gift or hosted stay in exchange for coverage. No business has paid to appear in a guide or to be left out of one.

The site is funded by advertising. Advertisements are selected and served automatically by third parties, are not endorsements by us, and are not editorial content. Any dealing you have with an advertiser is between you and them, and we are not a party to it. See the privacy policy for how advertising affects data collected during your visit.

4. Intellectual property

The text, structure, photographs, layout and design of this site are owned by Shanghai Tourism Guide or used under licence, and are protected by copyright.

You may read, print and share pages for your own personal, non-commercial trip planning, and quote a short extract with clear attribution and a working link back to the page it came from.

You may not republish our guides in whole or substantial part, whether or not attributed; use them to train, fine-tune or ground a machine learning model or dataset; scrape or systematically harvest the site; sell, licence or redistribute the content; or present it as your own. Automated bulk access of any kind is prohibited without our written permission.

“Shanghai Tourism Guide” and this site’s branding are ours. Third-party names, logos and trade marks appearing in the guides belong to their owners and are used descriptively for identification only.

To license content or request permission, use the contact page.

5. Acceptable use

Do not attempt to gain unauthorised access to this site or the server it runs on, introduce malicious code, place excessive automated load on it, or interfere with anyone else’s use of it. Do not use the contact form to send unsolicited commercial messages, guest-post pitches, link-insertion offers or abuse — those are deleted unread.

6. Links to other sites

We link out extensively so you can check our sources. We do not control those sites, are not responsible for their content, accuracy or practices, and a link is not an endorsement. Once you follow one, their terms apply, not ours.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Shanghai Tourism Guide and its contributors are not liable for any loss or damage — including missed flights, refused entry, wasted expenditure, cancelled bookings, indirect or consequential loss — arising from your use of this site or from reliance on anything published here.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect your statutory rights.

8. Changes

We update, revise and occasionally withdraw guides as circumstances change — that is the point of the site. We may also change these terms; the date at the top shows when they were last revised, and continued use after a change means you accept the revised version.

9. Governing law

These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of your own country’s law.

10. Contact

Questions about these terms, permission requests and licensing enquiries go through the contact page.
